About

On Wednesday, November 15, the Wednesday Morning Music Club (“WMMC”) presents a program dedicated to Chamber Music with selections sure to delight all “Chamber-philes” – members and guests alike – including:

Walpurgisnacht by Johannes Brahms with WMMC members
Katharine Shields and Gena Tabery singing soprano are accompanied by fellow member Mary Parse on the piano.

WMMC members Pat Yingst (both a flautist and a flutist) and Carolyn McColloch (both pianist and piano-player) treat the audience to Benjamin Godard’s Suite for Flute and Piano.

Previous attendees at WMMC programs once again enjoy the dynamic piano duo of Angelica Lopez and Betty Mallard, both WMMC members, play a duet of Claude Debussy’s Petite Suite.

For those enchanted by poetry celebrated in lyric music composition, selections of Robert Schumann’s song cycle Liederkreis, Opus 39, will be presented by WMMC members, Klaus Bichteler, on bass and Mary Parse at the piano. Liederkreis is regarded as one of the great song cycles of the 19th century and is based on the poetry of Joseph von Eichendorff. Mr. Bichteler and Ms. Parse play In der Fremde, Wehmut, Im Walde, Frühlingsnacht.

And finally, for lovers of romantic music, Trio Miniaturen, Op. 24, no.2, by Paul Juon will be presented by WMMC members Martha MacDonald on the clarinet, Terri Freeland playing cello (delighting cello-philes in the crowd), and Felicity Coltman at the piano. They play Rêverie, Humoreske, Elegie, and Danse phantastique.
This final selection not only allows the audience an insight into the lesser-known works of Juon, a Russian-Swiss composer and contemporary of Scriabin and Schoenberg, but an opportunity to witness the brilliant gift of Felicity Coltman, Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus of the Austin Chamber Music Center.
