Groupmuse, the platform that connects young classical musicians to local audiences through house parties, is now in Austin, a city whose residents love classical music house parties. KMFA was able to attend one of the most recent "Muses" at an undisclosed location in Central Austin. Here is our undercover account.

As soon as we entered the house, the host offered every new guest green-colored beer or Bailey's in honor of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day festivities (KMFA gracefully declined). After ten or so minutes of guests introducing each other and settling onto all available pieces of furniture and floor pillows, the musicians--three members of the Austin Flute Project--took the stage, or in this case, filled the entryway to the kitchen.

As guests sipped their green-colored drinks, these three flutists introduced each new piece with off-the-cuff anecdotes about the composers and filled the small space with a bright, ethereal sound. It felt casual, cool, and totally strange to sit in this intimate setting with complete strangers--and in all those ways, totally Austin, too.
