Emilio Alvarez
About Emilio Alvarez
Emilio Alvarez got his start in radio at a jazz station, had a brief detour in country radio, and is glad to have returned to his classical music roots. He is a lifelong cellist and served as principal cellist of the Southwestern University and Trinity University Orchestras in San Antonio, Texas, while earning a bachelor's degree in music from Trinity. Emilio has been known to perform with indigenous music groups, experimental free jazz bands, and classical ensembles all on the same night. He performs regularly with the South Texas Symphonic Orchestra and teaches a studio of young cellists, which now includes his daughter. His compositions have been featured in multiple concerts and stage productions.
Emilio is happy to drop everything at a moment's notice and go camping with his wife, daughter, and dog. He enjoys fixing things, helping in his wife's floral studio, riding bikes, and cheering for the San Antonio Spurs.
In radio, in life, and in music, Emilio adheres to the Will Rogers philosophy that one should "never miss a good opportunity to shut up."
