The Hispanic Alliance and KMFA Classical 89.5 announce the fifth annual Fall Into Music citywide instrument drive, taking place November 11-18. The drive will collect new and gently-used instruments, books, and accessories which will then be used by students in The Hispanic Alliance’s Austin Soundwaves program and other music education programs throughout Austin.

The four-note theme was excerpted from the “KMFA Celebratory Overture,” a commissioned piece that premiered with the Austin Symphony Orchestra on January 13, 2017.

KMFA launches the Soundtrack of Austin, a novel and immersive experience and the highlight of the redesigned KMFA mobile app. It’s a classical music tour around Austin that connects iconic landmarks and local cultural organizations with classical works curated by KMFA’s expert music staff. Like an audio tour through a museum, the app tells you about the significance of each location and why the selected piece fits.

KMFA 89.5, Austin’s listener-supported classical music station, will celebrate 50 years on the air in January 2017. To honor this landmark occasion, KMFA has planned “50 Events for 50 Years,” which includes a free public birthday party, a mayoral proclamation, a world premiere by the Austin Symphony, and a host of live and broadcast special events, community engagement events, and public appearances throughout the year.

The Hispanic Alliance and KMFA Classical 89.5 announce the fourth annual citywide instrument drive to support Austin youth music programs, taking place November 12-19. The drive will collect gently-used instruments, books, and accessories from the public and distribute them to 10 area schools and nonprofits that serve youth throughout Central Texas.

The campaign, “On Key, Offbeat,” was developed to better connect listeners with classical music and includes a new logo, billboards, print ads, interactive web page, and the one-of-a-kind Metronome that will keep the beat of Austin via Twitter traffic.

September 30, 2015 | Classical music combines with Modo yoga to bring total mind and body wellness to Austin
Modo Yoga Austin, an eco-friendly studio featuring the Modo series of hot yoga, today announced its partnership with the all-classical public radio station of Central Texas KMFA Classical 89.5. Austin’s non-profit, listener-supported station will combine forces with the Austin yoga studio for community-wide events and classes as well as to support a shared mission of giving back to the community.

The sounds of Broadway will join the lineup of locally produced programs on KMFA Classical 89.5 this summer in Icons of Broadway, a new one-hour show to debut Saturday, July 11 at noon.
April 10, 2015 | “Muhly-mania” at KMFA 89.5: Limited-Time Online Stream, Live Broadcast, Web Features Celebrate World Premiere by Composer Nico Muhly in Austin
To celebrate the world premiere of American composer Nico Muhly’s How Little You Are, KMFA 89.5 is producing a “pop-up” stream that will be hosted on kmfa.org beginning April 15. The KMFA-exclusive stream is a curated playlist featuring 24 hours of Muhly’s music, influences, interviews, and related performances.
March 10, 2015 | Anton Nel to Host KMFA's Pianoforte
Anton Nel, internationally renowned classical pianist and professor of Piano and Chamber music at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, will join KMFA 89.5 show Pianoforte as a guest host each month. Nel’s first show will air on Saturday, March 14.
January 12, 2015 | KMFA 89.5 Adds More Local Programs For 2015
Beginning January 12, KMFA will broadcast a full 22 hours of distinctive, locally created content every weekday. KMFA is dropping its use of the overnight syndicated feed, Classical 24, in order to offer unique programming around the clock Monday through Friday.
