Central Texas Philharmonic (CTP) was founded in 2018 through the merger of the Round Rock Symphony and Georgetown Symphony Society, uniting two strong traditions of musical excellence and community service. Under the leadership of Music Director Stefan Sanders, CTP launched its inaugural season in 2019 with six programs and a new Youth Orchestra, which continues to nurture young talent across the region.
Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, CTP remained active through virtual rehearsals and board meetings, returning to live performances in 2021 to enthusiastic audiences. Since then, the orchestra has expanded its reach and reputation, performing live film scores with Texas Performing Arts, serving as Orchestra in Residence for the Texas State International Piano Competition, and bringing classical music to diverse venues across Central Texas.
Education remains at the heart of CTP’s mission. The Youth Orchestra performs five concerts annually, collaborates with CTP musicians, and participates in community outreach programs that offer free instruments and instruction to students in Title I schools. The Charlotte Barbini Legacy in Arts Management Award honors Charlotte Barbini’s dedication to the arts and her belief in strong, community-based leadership. This scholarship supports Texas students studying instrumental music who also show interest in arts management. It encourages future musicians to lead and shape the arts through creativity, leadership, and a commitment to community.
Today, CTP stands as a vibrant cultural cornerstone, dedicated to bringing exceptional music, fostering the next generation of musicians, and enriching the quality of life throughout Central Texas.
