Hilda Paredes, was one of 12 composers, all living in England,  who received grants from the British group the PRS Foundation to compose new classical music.  Paredes, who was born in Mexico, is writing an opera monodrama about a woman she'd never heard of until a year ago - the American Harriet Tubman, the conductor of the underground railroad.
