Violinists Chris Whitley and Kumiko Sakamoto, violist Luis Bellorin, and cellist Titilayo Ayangade are the talents behind the University of Texas Young Professional String Quartet in Residence at the Butler School of Music, where they study with the Miró Quartet. Thalea has had quite the career performing internationally, and with many honors, including being appointed as the Sphinx Ensemble at the 2018 Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. They love Austin, and KMFA had the honor of hosting the quartet in studio for a performance and chat with our Midday Oasis host, Dianne Donovan. You'll hear the Thalea Quartet perform Copland’s Movement for String Quartet, and William Grant Still’s beautiful Lyric String Quartette.
This broadcast is part of KMFA's Listen Local series. This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
